| Description | Calcium Nitrate Tetrahydrate a clear crystals white exists in two monoclinic crystalline forms (alpha, specific gravity 1.9 and beta, specific gravity 1.82). It is prepared by neutralizing nitric acid with calcium carbonate. The anhydrous substance, a white deliquescent compound very soluble in water, is obtained from the hydrate by heating but it decomposes on strong heating to give the oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and oxygen. Calcium nitrate is used as a nitrogenous fertilizer, as a corrosive inhibitor in diesel fuels and as a component in explosive. |
