Potassium
Fluoborate (Potassium Tetrafluoborate)
[Molecular Formula] KBF4
[Molecular Weight] 125.91
[Properties]
white powder or gelatinous crystal, no hygroscopicity,
bitter odor; to form hexahedral prismatic crystal
if crystallizing from aqueous solution; specific
gravity: 2.50, melting point: 530°C, slight
soluble in water and heat alcohol, insoluble in
cold alcohol, begin to decompose when melting,
can be decomposed to boron trifluoride by strong
acid like sulfuric acid, to produce fluoride and
borate when melting together with alkali metal
carbonate, toxic.
[Uses]
It is used as flux in hot weld and copper weld,
as material to produce alloy containing boron
by aluminum-magnesium casting, as stuffing in
heavy-type grind stone using resin as adhesive
of grind material; It can defecate the light metal
residue in welding and fusing silver, gold and
stainless steel. It is also used to produce boron
trifluoride and other fluoride, used in electrochemical
process and as reagent.
