It strongly catalyzes the water-isocyanate reaction in the production of polyurethane foam. Its hydroxyl group can react with the isocyanate, thereby chemically bonding the DMEA catalyst molecule to the polyurethane polymer. As a result, residual amine odour in the finished foam product is minimised. However, poor surface cure and green strength may result.
