Hyaluronic acid (HA) is often used in formulation of skin care products, such as facial lotion, cream, because of its excellent moisture retention property. It is believed that hyaluronic acid with common molecular weight(1000-1500kDa) contained in such cosmetics creates protective film on the surface of skin, which retains moisture, and at the same time prevents moisture in the skin from evaporating out, so that improves freshness of skin. The oligosaccharides of HA (<10kDa) penetrates dermis and can be easily absorbed by the skin, and the content of HA in the skin improves significantly, which promotes the metabolism of skin cells, delays the aging of skin. Low molecular weight HA nourishes the skin, and has long lasting moisturizing effect. Function HA ranges in size from 1kDa to 5000kDa. HA with different molecular weight has different functions in cosmetics.
