Used as a raw material for the production of vitamin K3, used for the synthesis of plant growth inhibitors, surfactants, water reducers, dispersants, etc. In medicine, it is used as an intermediate for the production of vitamin K3, oxidized to produce β - naphthol, and used as a long-acting or short acting oral contraceptive. Synthetic plant growth regulators and DDT emulsifiers in agriculture; After sulfonation, it can be used as a descaling agent, as well as a raw material for fiber dyeing aids, wetting agents, surfactants, etc. It is also used as a surfactant, water reducer, dispersant, etc. It is also used as an important intermediate in textile printing and dyeing auxiliaries, surfactants, feed additives, and β - methylnaphthoquinone as an electron transporter to participate in biological photosynthesis. It can also synthesize various bioactive pharmaceutical products

The production method of 2-methylnaphthalene mainly exists in the naphthalene oil fraction (content about 5.48%) and wash oil fraction (content about 8.11%). 1. The narrow fraction that can crystallize at 237-241 ℃ obtained by distillation of methyl naphthalene fraction is used to obtain 2-methylnaphthalene by freeze crystallization method. Melt it at 40-45 ℃ and filter to obtain 2-methylnaphthalene with a purity of over 97%. 2. High temperature tar contains approximately 1.0% -1.8%. Using wash oil from coal tar as raw material, after dephenolization and depyridine alkali removal, methyl naphthalene fraction is distilled and cut at 240-245 ℃, frozen to -20 ℃, at which point 2-methylnaphthalene crystallizes and precipitates. Then refine the product using sweating crystallization method or methanol ethanol recrystallization.
