Synthesis route (preparation method)
According to publicly available information, a common laboratory synthesis method is as follows
Dissolve 16 g (0.1 mol bromine) in 50 mL of carbon tetrachloride;
Slowly add dropwise with stirring to a mixture consisting of 13 g (0.1 mol heptanoic acid) and 22 g (0.0945 mol mercuric oxide) dissolved in 150 mL of dry carbon tetrachloride;
After reflux reaction, the filtrate was washed successively with 5% NaOH solution and water;
Dry with anhydrous sodium sulfate;
Fractionate the collected product to obtain approximately 6 g (36% yield) of 1-bromohexane.
